About Jessica

121017_Jessica_Kurn_0053_web-FOR WEBJessica Ilyse Kurn is a freelance multimedia journalist based in Somerville, MA.

Her beats include: food, nutrition, agriculture, public health, climate change and emerging science. She addresses both the breaking news and policy stories, as well as the more offbeat and quirky. For example, she’s reported on the EPA’s reevaluation of the herbicide Atrazine, and also on two farmers who converted their pickup truck into a mobile organic farm.

Jessica garnered her knowledge of these beats and her research skills in both college and graduate school. At Barnard College, Columbia University she received a B.S. in environmental science and human rights, and at Tufts University she received a M.S. in nutrition with a focus on food, agriculture and environmental policy.

Jessica spent three and a half years working as a staff reporter and a producer at Public Radio International’s show Living on Earth. She is currently working as a freelance journalist and content creator.

Jessica is available for reporting, production, podcasting, audio slideshows, tape syncs and voice talent.
